2013 Director’s Community Leadership Awards
Little Rock | Kareem Moody |
The Little Rock Division honors Kareem Moody for his work as a longtime advocate for the education and protection of Arkansas’ at-risk youth. Kareem Moody began serving his community in the 1990s as a coordinator for the Youth Initiative Project—a city of Little Rock-funded initiative designed to empower young people to make good decisions. The program, which works primarily with gang-involved youth, is credited with helping hundreds of young people transition to adulthood. Mr. Moody has also served as program director for the Positive Atmosphere Reaches Kids afterschool program. Mr. Moody is instrumental in developing and administering programs that provide a safe nurturing environment for roughly 250 young people each year. In his current position as director of the Network for Student Success, Mr. Moody works to help at-risk African-American young men graduate from high school and attend college. Funded by the United States Department of Education, the program is dedicated to the recruitment, retention, and academic success of students at Pulaski Technical College in North Little Rock. Mr. Moody is also the author of the parenting book Raise Them Up: The Real Deal on Reaching Unreachable Kids and is a regular panelist at the city of Little Rock’s annual crime summit. He recently served on a law enforcement roundtable, which included the mayor, city manager, local police chiefs, and the county sheriff. |
