The Boston Division honors Thaddeus Miles, director of public safety at MassHousing— self-supporting non-profit public agencyand founder of the MassIMPACT technology consortium. MassHousing has provided more than $13 billion in financing for home buyers and homeowners and for developers and owners of affordable rental housing. Mr. Miles has designed and implemented crime prevention strategies affecting several thousand housing units throughout the commonwealth of Massachusetts. He also works with law enforcement and diverse communities to confront the complexities of crime and the resulting trauma.

Mr. Miles is the co-founder of the Neighborhood Network National Consortium and serves on many non-profit oversight boards throughout Massachusetts. He organized Think Big, Dream Big—a youth-driven initiative to jump start youth on a journey to a positive future and the fulfillment of their goals and dreams. During the summers of 2012 and 2013, youth engaged in a Think Big, Dream Big eight-week internship to enhance their leadership and teamwork skills. Through his position with MassHousing and MassIMPACT, Mr. Miles also funds and leads ACEDONE, an African-run and youth-driven organization committed to empowering refugees through education. All programming is focused on creating the conditions necessary for youth to graduate high school and enter college so they can develop a stronger East African community in Boston.

During the last 15 years, Mr. Miles has founded and co-chaired four safety task force groups in the city of Boston, bringing together more than 200 community partners—from law enforcement to residents of MassHousing and the Boston Housing Authority’s multi-family communities.
