Albany | Marion Field |
Colleen Goldston accepts the award on her behalf. |
The Albany Division honors Marion Field for her dedication to community projects that positively impact the lives of young people with diverse backgrounds. Mrs. Field established the Little Italy Neighborhood Association—which includes one of the most active neighborhood watch programs in the city of Troy—as well as a drop-in summer camp for neighborhood children. To fund the camp, Mrs. Field partnered with private businesses and coordinated community fundraising events. She has also organized several National Night Out events and has coordinated an annual International Day. In addition to creating a source of unity for residents from diverse ethnic and social backgrounds, these events provide the youth of the area with unique educational opportunities by exposing them to different cultures and backgrounds. In addition to the neighborhood association, Mrs. Field founded the Path Stone Project, which employs retired adults to assist in neighborhood cleanup projects throughout the year. She regularly partners with the Troy Police Department in supporting the city’s nationally recognized Weed and Seed Program and assists with the Troy Police Department’s Drug Education for Youth project. She is currently working on the Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving strategy. |
