The Honolulu Division honors Major General Darryll D.M. Wong for his exemplary service in the areas of homeland security; assistance to federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies; community preparedness and resilience; and youth outreach.

As the state adjutant general, Major General Wong has distinguished himself as a champion of law enforcement agencies while building stronger communities throughout the state of Hawaii. As a key member of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit executive committee, he fostered collaborative efforts among federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, including first responders. He successfully planned and executed the APEC Summit in Honolulu in November 2011. Under Major General Wong’s initiative, the committee continues to meet quarterly, continuing their collaborative efforts to ensure security for Hawaii.

Major General Wong has been instrumental in the sustainability of the KOA (Kokua, Ohana, Aloha) program under the auspices of the Hawaii National Guard’s Counterdrug Program. Since 2008, in partnership with numerous community-based organizations, the KOA program has provided resources to more than 2,000 first-time teen offenders and their families. Major General Wong is also an active supporter of Youth Challenge Academies, which challenge at-risk youth to complete hours of community service.
