Paul B. Murphy

Chief of Staff

Paul B. Murphy has served as chief of staff for the director since June 2019. Previously, Mr. Murphy was a partner in the King & Spalding law firm, practicing law in Atlanta with the firm’s Special Matters and Government Investigations Practice Group.

Mr. Murphy has held several roles with the Department of Justice, including as the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Georgia. Prior to that, Mr. Murphy served as an associate deputy attorney general and later as the chief of staff to then-Deputy Attorney General Larry D. Thompson. During his time at DOJ, Mr. Murphy’s portfolio included the Department’s criminal and civil healthcare fraud enforcement program, as well as the U.S. Marshals Service, the Federal Bureau of Prisons, and other Justice components.

Mr. Murphy also served as an assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Georgia. He prosecuted a wide range of federal crimes and was recognized for his work with commendations from the FBI and other law enforcement agencies.

Mr. Murphy is a graduate of Vanderbilt University and received his law degree from the University of Georgia.
