The FBI is offering a reward of up to $20,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the individual(s) responsible for the shooting that resulted in the death of Markiya Dickson and injuries to two others.


During the evening hours of May 26, 2019, officers with the City of Richmond Police Department responded to a report of a shooting at Fonticello/Carter Jones Park located in the 2700 block of Bainbridge Street in Richmond, Virginia. Officers arrived and discovered that three individuals had been shot and were already being transported to the hospital. One of the victims, nine-year-old Markiya Dickson, died as a result of her injuries sustained during the shooting; the other two victims were treated for their injuries and have survived.

On the evening of the shooting there were individuals playing on the ballfields, children playing on the playground, and families having cookouts were present when the gunfire erupted.

The FBI Richmond Central Virginia Violent Crimes Task Force is committed to assisting the Richmond Police Department in its efforts by bringing to justice those responsible for Markiya’s death.
