FBI Special Agent Careers

Applying to be a Special Agent 

FBI special agents are required to adhere to strict standards of conduct and exemplify the FBI’s Core Competencies, including:

  • Initiative

  • Leadership

  • Organizing and Planning

  • Problem Solving/Judgment

The open-ended questions are designed to understand your background and fit with these competencies. As such, you are strongly encouraged to provide as much information as possible and use the Situation, Action, Result format to describe the situation, the actions you took, and the resulting outcomes.
