2011 Director’s Community Leadership Awards

Cleveland Jimmy Malone

Cleveland field office Director’s Community Leadership Award 2011

The Cleveland Division is pleased to honor Jimmy Malone, a local radio personality who established a college scholarship to help local youth pursue their educational goals.

In 1995, Mr. Malone, his wife, April, and their daughter, Angela, provided three small scholarships to help deserving students buy college textbooks. What started as a small “one time” gesture has turned into an effort to help students attend the college of their choice.

The Jimmy Malone Scholarship is awarded to students with a financial need who have accepted admittance to an accredited college.

Since 2009, the Malones have given full scholarships to more than 90 students. More than 85 percent of students who receive this scholarship go on to graduate from college. As a part of the scholarship, participating students stay in close contact with the Malones and are expected to write or call whether they have a problem to discuss or a success to report.

In a ceremony at FBI Headquarters, Director Robert S. Mueller, III recognized the recipients of the 2011 Director’s Community Leadership Award. These leaders, selected by their area FBI field office, have demonstrated outstanding contributions to their local communities through service. The FBI is grateful for the work of each of these individuals and organizations on behalf of their communities.

“Whatever the motivation—an unfilled need, a tragic occurrence, a desire to give back—these are people who make things happen and enlist others in their cause,” said Director Mueller. “They are activists who have earned their prestige through good works.”
