Paula Goldberg accepts the award on behalf of PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center.

The Minneapolis Division is pleased to honor PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center, a program created to help prevent bullying of special needs children.

The PACER Center is a non-profit organization that provides training and information to families with children with disabilities from birth to age 21. The PACER Center offers workshops, publications, and resources to help families determine the best educational, vocational, and employment options for their children. The program offers free, creative, and interactive resources on the Internet.

In 2000, staff at the center noticed an increase in bullying incidents and developed a curriculum and materials that they distributed to 100 parent centers nationwide. In 2006, they launched “Kids Against Bullying,” an interactive website for students that focuses on bullying education, awareness, and prevention. In 2009, they created “Teens Against Bullying,” a website for teens to learn how to report and help stop bullying in schools.

As a part of its efforts to combat the growing cycle of bullying, the PACER Center has also initiated and launched National Bullying Prevention Month, held in October.
