The Cincinnati Division is pleased to honor the Columbus Global Academy, an English as a Second Language school for immigrant and refugee students who have limited English language skills. The administrators, teachers, and staff at the school have demonstrated leadership in support of young people and have been valuable partners of the FBI. As part of the Columbus City School District, the school serves almost 500 students between the ages of 11 and 22. Many of the students at the Columbus Global Academy arrived in the United States with families seeking refuge from countries torn apart by war, famine, or natural disasters. These students face many challenges at home and in the community, but the faculty and staff at the Columbus Global Academy work to create a positive learning environment for them. For the past three years, the Cincinnati Division has held an FBI Teen Academy at the school. The Teen Academy and other programs have provided opportunities to introduce students to the FBI. The FBI has worked with students in an effort to strengthen relations with local ethnic communities and mentor at-risk youth who may be vulnerable to radicalization, drug use, or gang membership. The Cincinnati Division has also participated in the school’s Community Advisory Council. FBI employees and their families have volunteered at the Columbus Global Academy, taken part in career day presentations, and hosted a field trip to the FBI office for a group tour and lunch. School officials have expressed a continued interest in partnering with the FBI on programs that benefit students, parents, and the community.
