Director Mueller and John R. McConnaughey

John R. McConnaughey’s contribution to law enforcement began in Lynwold, California, where he served as a police officer from 1966 to 1974. Today, Mr. McConnaughey is the owner and president of JRM & Associates Life Insurance Company.

A 2006 graduate of the Cincinnati Division’s Citizens’ Academy, Mr. McConnaughey now serves on the Board of Directors for the FBI Citizens’ Academy Alumni Association. He serves as an Associate Member of the Hamilton County Police Association and the President of the Cincinnati Citizens’ Police Association (CCPA), which provides support to the Cincinnati law enforcement community.

Additionally, Mr. McConnaughey is a member of the Cincinnati FBI Multicultural Advisory Council (MCAC). He is one of the founders of the Gang Initiative Project and the Southern Ohio Chapter of the Midwest Gang Investigators Association. Both organizations work with the Cincinnati public schools to combat gang activity.

Mr. McConnaughey is always available to assist members of the organizations with which he is involved. He meets with Congress and fights for the rights of the uninsured and is an advocate for crime and violence reduction in our schools. He also meets with state representatives to discuss school violence reduction programs.

In a ceremony at FBI Headquarters, Director Robert S. Mueller, III recognized the recipients of the 2008 Director’s Community Leadership Award. These leaders, selected by their area FBI field office, have demonstrated outstanding contributions to their local communities through service. The FBI is grateful for the work of each of these individuals and organizations on behalf of their communities.

“Whatever the motivation—an unfilled need, a tragic occurrence, a desire to give back—these are people who make things happen and enlist others in their cause,” said Director Mueller. “They are activists who have earned their prestige through good works.”
