Suspected 'Wiggin Out Bandit' Arrested—Charged with 10 Bank Robberies

PHOENIX, AZ—On Thursday, October 18, 2018, Raymar Arthur, 31, believed to be the “Wiggin Out Bandit”, was taken into custody without incident at his home in Maricopa, Arizona.

Arthur is charged with 10 bank robberies and three attempted bank robberies, which occurred between March 27, 2018 and October 4, 2018.

The nickname, “Wiggin Out Bandit", came from the various wigs that were worn during the bank robberies.

During the robberies, the suspect verbally demanded money or presented tellers with a demand note, then fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money. No one was physically injured.

The suspect is believed to be responsible for the following robberies and/or attempted robberies:

  • March 27, 2018, at approximately 5:55 p.m., at the Chase Bank located at 1021 North Ellsworth Road in Mesa, Arizona.
  • April 11, 2018, at approximately 4:14 p.m., at the Wells Fargo located at 1951 West Baseline Road in Mesa, Arizona.
  • May 11, 2018, at approximately 6:53 p.m., at the MidFirst Bank located at 4750 East Chandler Boulevard in Phoenix, Arizona.
  • June 1, 2018, at approximately 6:11 p.m., at the Wells Fargo located at 1951 West Baseline Road in Mesa, Arizona.
  • June 25, 2018, at approximately 6:01 p.m., at the U.S. Bank located at 3185 West Apache Trail in Apache Junction, Arizona.
  • July 16, 2018, at approximately 5:51 p.m., at the Wells Fargo bank located at 339 East Brown Road in Mesa, Arizona.
  • August 1, 2018, at approximately 7:02 p.m., at the Wells Fargo bank located at 4970 South Alma School Road in Chandler, Arizona.
  • August 2, 2018, at approximately 7:02 p.m., at the U.S. Bank located at 1960 West Main Street in Mesa, Arizona.
  • August 16, 2018, at approximately 2:46 p.m., at the Wells Fargo bank located 339 East Brown Road in Mesa, Arizona.
  • August 22, 2018, at approximately 7:00 p.m., at the Wells Fargo located at 1122 N Higley Road in Mesa, Arizona.
  • August 23, 2018, at approximately 5:55 p.m., at the U.S. Bank located at 18495 E Queen Creek Road in Queen Creek, Arizona.
  • August 23, 2018, at approximately 6:30 p.m., at the Wells Fargo bank located at 155 West Combs Road in Queen Creek, Arizona.
  • October 4, 2018, at approximately 6:54 p.m., at the U.S. Bank located at 1960 West Main Street in Mesa, Arizona.

An anonymous tip from the public ultimately led to the identification of the suspect. The FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force would like to thank the public for their assistance with this case, along with the media, and our billboard partner Clear Channel Outdoor.

If deemed applicable, reward payments will be made at the conclusion of the investigation. As a matter of policy, the FBI does not publicly release the identity of those who provide tips.

The FBI would also like to thank the Mesa Police Department for their work on this investigation, along with the Chandler Police Department, Apache Junction Police Department, Phoenix Police Department, Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, and the Maricopa Police Department.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The suspect has been charged in a complaint, filed in federal court. A complaint is only an accusation, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
