Arrest of Wanted Canton Fugitive in Atlanta Area

Stephen D. Anthony, Special Agent in Charge of the Cleveland Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for the Northern District of Ohio, in conjunction with Canton Police Chief Bruce Lawver, announces the arrest of Laderrius Dorsey, aka Byrd, age 22.

FBI Atlanta Division arrested Dorsey without incident this morning at a residential apartment complex in Marietta, Georgia. Dorsey was wanted on an unlawful flight to avoid prosecution based on Dorsey being wanted in connection with a robbery and shooting in the Canton, Ohio area on April 1, 2014. The arrest warrant was for aggravated robbery and felonious assault. Dorsey had a second arrest warrant in connection with a carjacking in the Canton, Ohio area.

Dorsey will have his initial court appearance in Atlanta, Georgia, where it will be determined if he will waive his right or will fight extradition back to Ohio.

The case leading up to the arrest of Laderrius Dorsey was worked by the FBI’s Canton Safe Streets Task Force, which is composed of FBI, Canton Police Department, Alliance Police Department, Jackson Township Police Department, and the State of Ohio Adult Parole Authority. Assistance was also provided by the United States Marshal Service.

An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is entitled to a fair trial in which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. If convicted, the defendants’ sentences will be determined by the court after review of factors unique to this case, including the defendants’ prior criminal records, if any; their role in the offenses; and the characteristics of the violations. In all cases, the sentences will not exceed the statutory maximum, and, in most cases, it will be less than the maximum.
