Dr. Earl Sutherland, Jr. is a clinical child psychologist who also serves as the director for the Child and Adolescent Referral and Evaluation (CARE) Centers located on the Crow and Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservations in Montana. In this capacity, he utilizes proactive and innovative approaches to address the prevention of child sexual abuse and family violence by providing a variety of services to children and families. Through his work, Dr. Sutherland has made a multi-generational impact on a significant social problem in the Native American community, helping to prevent sexual abuse and family violence. Dr. Sutherland’s work with the CARE Centers started in April 2007, when he opened the first center on the Crow Indian Reservation. The child advocacy foundation offers specialized diagnostic counseling, behavioral health services, and medical services to children who have been impacted by violent crime. The success with the first center resulted in the opening of the second location on the Northern Cheyenne Reservation in January 2010. Both centers assist law enforcement by responding to investigations of child sexual abuse involving multiple perpetrators. In an effort to reach more people and assist other communities, Dr. Sutherland is sharing his expertise by providing training for every Indian reservation in Montana and for other tribes across the country. |
