2010 Director’s Community Leadership Awards

Office of Public Affairs Steve Harvey Foundation

Steve HarveyComedian and media personality Steve Harvey is well known for his passion for philanthropy and helping others. Since 2000, he has helped countless individuals pursue their career and educational dreams. From book drives and technology upgrades in the Los Angeles Unified School District to donating more than $35,000 to underserved school children in Jamaica, he has proven himself to be a tireless servant of his community.

Expanding his philanthropic efforts in 2009, Mr. Harvey launched the Steve Harvey Mentoring Weekend for young men. This four-day camp for boys from single-family homes serves as a true “manhood experience” for young men. After participating in the weekend retreat, Mr. Harvey hopes these boys will see beyond their current circumstances and provides them with the tools to navigate the world as men.

In 2010, the FBI Community Outreach Program partnered with Mr. Harvey as a part of its minority and youth initiative. Multiple FBI employees volunteered as mentors, while others, such as FBI executive Jennifer Love, who serves as the FBI’s deputy assistant director of the Inspection Division, spoke to a group of 125 mothers during a Community Relations Executive Seminar Training (CREST).

In a ceremony at FBI Headquarters, Director Robert S. Mueller, III recognized the recipients of the 2010 Director’s Community Leadership Award. These leaders, selected by their area FBI field office, have demonstrated outstanding contributions to their local communities through service. The FBI is grateful for the work of each of these individuals and organizations on behalf of their communities.

“Whatever the motivation—an unfilled need, a tragic occurrence, a desire to give back—these are people who make things happen and enlist others in their cause,” said Director Mueller. “They are activists who have earned their prestige through good works.”
