The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and San Diego Police Department (SDPD) are announcing the arrest and filing of federal bank robbery charges against Steven Demetrious Glenn, age 48, of San Diego, California.

The charges filed against Glenn are the result of an investigation conducted following the attempted robbery of the Bank of America at 3101 University Avenue in San Diego, California, on Thursday, November 6, 2014.

According the to the federal complaint filed in this matter by an FBI special agent with the U.S. District Court, Southern District of California, San Diego, California. Glenn is charged with one count of attempted bank robbery, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, 2113(a).

According to the complaint, on Thursday, November 6, 2014, at approximately 12:12 p.m., FBI agents and SDPD officers responded to a report of an attempted bank robbery at the Bank of America at 3101 University Avenue in San Diego, California. Agents and officers were responding to the bank after a bank employee activated the bank’s alarm and called 911 to report a bank robbery in progress.

At the time of the robbery, an unknown individual entered the bank and presented a demand note. The demand note stated, “This is a stick up. Give me 2 stacks of $100. 2 stacks of $50.” The victim teller responded by stepping away from the counter, announced that the bank was being robbed, and activated the bank’s alarm system. Other bank employees initiated bank security protocols that included calling 911. After a few minutes, Glenn exited the bank without receiving any money.

SDPD personnel communicated a description of the robber based on the 911 call to patrol officers in the area. SDPD officers responding to the robbery observed an individual matching the bank robbery suspect’s description walking eastbound in the area of the 3100 block of University Avenue. SDPD officers detained the individual in an effort to determine if this individual was involved in the attempted bank robbery. Additional investigation that included physical identification by bank employees and a review of bank surveillance photographs of the robber indicated Glenn appeared to be identical to the unknown male who robbed the bank.

Following his arrest, Glenn was booked into the Bureau of Prisons (BOP), Metropolitan Correctional Center (MCC). Glenn is expected to have his initial appearance before a U.S. Magistrate Judge on Friday, November 7, 2014. This case is being prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office (USAO), Southern District of California.
