The number of persons known to be involved in the 1,443 robberies, burglaries, and larcenies was 1,749. The following table shows a breakdown of the 1,749 persons who have been identified by race and sex. In a small number of cases, the use of full disguise makes determination of race and sex impossible.

Investigation to date has resulted in the identification of 566 (32 percent) of the 1,749 persons known to be involved. Of these 566 identified persons, 246 (43 percent) were determined to be users of narcotics, and 101 (18 percent) were found to have been previously convicted in either federal or state court for bank obbery, bank burglary, or bank larceny.

Injuries, Deaths, and Hostages Taken

Acts of violence were committed during 58 (4 percent) of the 1,443 robberies, burglaries, and larcenies which occurred during this three-month period. These acts included 17 instances involving the discharge of firearms, 32 instances involving assaults, and eight instances of hostage situations. (One or more acts of violence may occur during an incident.) These acts of violence resulted in 29 injuries, seven deaths, and 25 persons being taken hostage.
