SAN JUAN, PR—Special Agent in Charge Douglas Leff, of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) San Juan Division, announced the arrest of ADAM CHARTIER for using a telephone, and other instrument of interstate commerce, willfully to make a threat and maliciously to convey false information knowing the same to be false, concerning an attempt and alleged attempt being made to kill, injure, and intimidate any individual and unlawfully to damage and destroy any building by means of an explosive.

On February 11, 2016, ADAM CHARTIER was arrested by FBI San Juan SWAT agents and Police of Puerto Rico task force partners at his residence in Aguada, Puerto Rico. CHARTIER is being charged in the United States District Court for the District of Puerto Rico, in connection with a recent series of terroristic bomb threats to government facilities, including a federal building, a police station, and a courthouse. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Alex Alum. It is being investigated by the FBI.

The FBI will continue to utilize all available resources and technical expertise to remove threats of terrorism against the citizens of Puerto Rico, as well as the attendant risk to life caused every time emergency responders are misdirected to false alarms. The FBI and its law enforcement partners are committed to seeking justice for anyone responsible for the making or facilitating of terroristic threats against people or property. Information from the public is often crucial towards solving these cases.

The public is reminded that a criminal complaint contains only charges and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty. The U.S. government has the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
