Eric W. Sporre Named Assistant Director of the Insider Threat Office
Director Christopher Wray has named Eric W. Sporre as assistant director of the FBI’s Insider Threat Office. Since 2017, Mr. Sporre has served as the special agent in charge of the Tampa Field Office in Florida, where he was responsible for all FBI investigative matters across central Florida.
The Insider Threat Office is the FBI’s central strategic coordinating component for all insider threat issues.
Mr. Sporre began his FBI career in Miami in 1998, investigating a variety of complex white-collar crime matters. In 2003, he was promoted to FBI Headquarters as a supervisory special agent in the Cyber Division. In 2005, Mr. Sporre was selected to lead the computer forensic program at the Washington Field Office. The following year, he assumed responsibility for the field office’s undercover programs.
In 2009, Mr. Sporre was selected to serve as an assistant legal attaché in London, where his main focus was counterterrorism. He also served as the primary FBI point of contact for investigative matters involving the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. From 2012 to 2014, Mr. Sporre served as an assistant special agent in charge in the Atlanta Field Office, leading the cyber, counterintelligence, and administrative programs.
Before taking the helm of the Tampa office, Mr. Sporre served as deputy assistant director of operations in the Cyber Division at FBI Headquarters.
Prior to joining the FBI, Mr. Sporre served as a police officer and detective. He is an attorney and holds several professional certifications in information systems security.
