SPRINGFIELD—David Nanz, special agent in charge of the FBI Springfield Field Office announces the Jewish Federation of Springfield, IL, as the recipient of the 2023 FBI Director’s Community Leadership Award (DCLA). The organization was recognized this week at the Springfield Field Office during a special presentation.

The FBI established the DCLA in 1990 to publicly acknowledge the achievements of those working to make a difference in their communities through the promotion of education and the prevention of crime and violence. Each year, one person or organization from each of the FBI’s 56 field offices is chosen to receive this prestigious award.

“The award reflects the importance of community partnerships that help make better, safer communities,” said FBI Springfield Field Office Special Agent in Charge David Nanz. “Our relationship with the Jewish Federation of Springfield, IL, has been instrumental in improving dialog and creating an open line of communication that ultimately advances the interests of the entire community.”

Founded in 1941, the Jewish Federation of Springfield, IL, serves Jewish people locally, in Israel and throughout the world through coordinated fundraising, communitywide programming, social services, and educational activities. The organization has partnered with many community groups on projects to help unite the Springfield community, strengthen relationships, and provide a deeper understanding of tolerance and acceptance.

“The Jewish Federation of Springfield, IL, is honored to receive this award and to be recognized for our work in the community,” said Executive Director Nancy Sage. “We are grateful for the opportunity to work with the FBI on endeavors that promote understanding, and support and strengthen connections within our diverse community.”

The Jewish Federation of Springfield, IL, will receive national recognition in April when FBI Director Christopher Wray formally presents an award during the DCLA ceremony held at FBI Headquarters. Sage will accept the award on behalf of the Federation.
