The FBI is Currently Accepting Applications for the Special Agent Position

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico—Special Agent in Charge Rafael Riviere Vázquez, of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) San Juan Field Office, announced the FBI is currently accepting applications for the special agent position.

Are you a U.S. citizen between the ages of 23 and 36? Do you have a bachelor’s degree from a U.S.-accredited college or university and at least two years of full-time professional work experience? Do you have a valid driver’s license and six months of driving experience? If you do, you might just have what it takes to become a special agent with the FBI.

Of course, there is more to it and not everyone who qualifies will become a special agent. You need to be able to pass a physical fitness test—and only the best are ultimately selected. Also, when we talk about professional work experience, it means work in a career/job that requires a bachelor’s degree, so not all work experience will be considered. Then again, if someone has more than two years of full-time military or police experience, with a bachelor’s degree, then they meet the basic requirements for professional work experience as well.

So you see, there are opportunities for candidates of many different backgrounds and knowing whether or not you qualify, may not be as obvious. You have to go through the process to find out and that is what we want to encourage. As a Puerto Rican, I know there are many great men and women in Puerto Rico, who could have amazing careers with the Bureau and don’t even know they can apply for the job.

If you meet the basic criteria and think you have what it takes, we want to hear from you! To learn more about the basic requirements and how to apply, visit https://www.fbijobs.gov/sites/default/files/how-to-apply.pdf. Not sure you qualify? Drop us a line with your questions via an email to SanJuanApplicants@fbi.gov or call 787-987-9289 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m..

You can also follow @FBISanJuan on Twitter, where we will be announcing upcoming Live recruiting events in which potential candidates can talk to a special agent and ask all their questions about the Special Agent Selection process as well as the Basic Field Training Course at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

Joining the FBI family has been one of the best decisions I ever made. If you’ve been thinking about a career change or are looking for a career like no other, this may be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.
