FBI Seeks Information to Locate Wanted Fugitive Julio Cesar Guevara-Mejia
The Sacramento Division of the FBI has refreshed an international campaign to locate Julio Cesar Guevara-Mejia, 42, a Honduran national whose alleged crimes include attempted murder and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution for the related charge. Guevara-Mejia is a 5’6” tall Hispanic male with black hair and brown eyes who, at the time of his crime, weighed approximately 160 pounds. He continues to be considered armed and dangerous.
On November 10, 2007, Guevara-Mejia allegedly lured a 19-year-old Sacramento, California woman with whom he had a prior relationship to a hotel in Davis, California, where he had rented a room. When the victim arrived at the hotel, Guevara-Mejia attempted to force her into the room. A bystander heard the woman scream for help and attempted to intervene on her behalf. Guevara-Mejia then pulled out a handgun and fired a shot at the bystander, who escaped injury. Guevara-Mejia then pushed the victim into the hotel room, where he forced her onto the bed and shot her in each foot. He then aimed the weapon at her chest and fired at least three more rounds into her torso. Despite her injuries, the victim survived.
On November 13, 2007, a local arrest warrant was issued for Guevara-Mejia by the Superior Court of California, Davis, California, charging him with attempted murder, false imprisonment, assault with a deadly weapon, and possession of a deadly weapon.
On January 22, 2008, a federal arrest warrant was issued by the United States District Court, Eastern District of California, Sacramento, California against Guevara-Mejia, charging him with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. Thus far, Guevara-Mejia has yet to be captured.
Photos and identifying information are noted on the FBI wanted poster, available in both English and Spanish online (see links below). Guevara-Mejia is believed to have ties to Southern California, Texas, Mexico, and Latin America, but his current location is unknown.
