Ovalle Extradited from Spain to Face Sentencing for Possession of Child Pornography Conviction

On December 13, 2011, Guillermo Enrique Ovalle Olaz pleaded guilty in United States District Court for the Southern District of New York to one count of possession of child pornography and was released on bond with electronic monitoring pending sentencing, which was scheduled for May 16, 2012. Prior to sentencing, Ovalle fled the United States. More than nine years later, on September 22, 2021, Ovalle was arrested in Barcelona, Spain. Due to the extraordinary assistance of Spanish authorities, Ovalle was cleared for extradition on November 16, 2021 and accompanied back to the United States by New York-based FBI special agents on November 22, 2021. He was presented before a SDNY Magistrate Judge the next day and ordered held without bond.

The FBI New York Field Office’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force would like to thank the FBI Legal Attaché in Madrid, the Department of Justice’s Office of International Affairs of the Department’s Criminal Division, the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, and the Fugitive Active Search Team of Spain’s Guardia Civil, for their assistance in the apprehension of Ovalle in Spain and his subsequent extradition the United States.
