FBI New York to Hold Diversity Recruiting Event for the Special Agent Position

Approximately 16% of special agents identify as a minority, FBI hopes recruiting event will help increase diversity among special agent population 

New York— As part of the FBI’s continuing commitment to attract highly skilled and diverse talent, the FBI’s New York Office will host a unique event on June 6, 2017, in New York City for applicants interested in applying for the special agent position.  The event will provide attendees with the opportunity to patriate in discussions with current FBI special agents and gain first-hand knowledge about their training, experiences, as well as what to expect in the application process. The event is open to citizens of the United States of all backgrounds, but attendees must register beforehand. Those wishing to attend the event must register in advance at www.FBIJobs.gov, select “Apply to Jobs,” then select “Talent Networks” and then select “DAR NY Talent Network.” 

All applicants for the special agent position must meet the following minimum requirements:

·         Must be 23 years of age, but not more than 36 ½ year of age (some exceptions for military apply)

·         Must possess of U.S. –accredited bachelor’s degree at a minimum

·         Applicants must have at least three years of full-time work experience

·         Applicants must have a valid U.S. driver’s license 

The event is part of the FBI’s “Diversity Agent Recruitment” Program, an initiative aimed at reaching applicants with a variety of backgrounds in order to increase the diversity of the FBI. The “Diversity Agent Recruitment” Program has previously held events this year in Los Angeles, CA and Houston, TX.  Additional events are planned across the country. Currently, the FBI employees more than 13,500 special agents, with 10,821 male and 2,717 female.  Approximately 2,500 special agents identify with a minority group. Further racial breakdown includes: 

            American Indian/ Alaskan Native: 0.35%

            Asian: 4.51%

            Black/ African American: 4.39%

            Hispanic/ Latino: 6.47%

            White: 83.37%

            Hawaiian/ Pacific Islander: 0.14%

            Multi-Racial: 0.78% 

In addition to recruiting applicants from diverse backgrounds, the FBI is seeking applicants with a science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) background or applicants with proficiency in foreign languages especially: Farsi, Chinese, Korean, Urdu, and Cambodian.
