Mount Vernon Detective Charged with Extortion and Drug Trafficking Crimes

COLUMBUS, OH—Special Agent in Charge Angela L. Byers of the Cincinnati Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced today that Matthew Dailey, 44, of Howard, Ohio, a detective with the Mount Vernon Ohio Police Department, was arrested by the FBI and law enforcement partners on a criminal complaint.

The criminal complaint alleges Dailey used his position with the Mount Vernon Police Department to extort others, traffic in narcotics, and use a firearm while committing drug trafficking crimes.

SAC Byers thanked the Drug Enforcement Administration and Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation for their ongoing work in this investigation. She also expressed appreciation to Chief Roger Monroe and the Mount Vernon Police Department for their cooperation in this matter.

A criminal complaint is not a finding of guilt. An individual charged by criminal complaint is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at later criminal proceedings.
