PITTSBURGH—Protecting Merchant Point of Sale Systems Training will be offered tomorrow, Dec. 3, 2014, to retailers and companies that are processing financial transactions and managing customer personally identifiable information during the upcoming holiday season and beyond. This day-long training event is a joint effort by the Secret Service Pittsburgh Electronic Crimes Task Force, the FBI Pittsburgh Cyber Squad, and the National Cyber Forensics Training Alliance (NCFTA). The venue is the Green Tree DoubleTree Hotel, located at 500 Mansfield Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15205.

The training sessions will offer information on and possible mitigations for common cyber exploitation tactics, techniques and procedures leveraged by attackers in the past year. The TTPs to be discussed will include exploiting commercial application vulnerabilities; unauthorized access via remote access; e-mail phishing; and unsafe web browsing from computer systems used to collect, process, store or transmit customer information.

The 9 a.m. Welcome/Orientation is open to the media, and speakers—including U.S. Attorney David J. Hickton, Eric Zahren, Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Secret Service, and J. Keith Mularski, Supervisory Special Agent of the FBI’s Cyber Squad—will be available for interviews. All other sessions are open only to the 150 advance registrants. Participants include financial institutions from big banks to small credit unions; businesses from national retailers to local merchants; and law enforcement on the federal, state and municipal levels.
