Arrest Made Following Bank Robbery

Keith Slotter, Special Agent in Charge of the San Diego FBI Office, announces the arrest of Donald Barton Deshotels, Jr., age 46.

Deshotels was arrested on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 following the 3:50 p.m. robbery of the Wells Fargo Bank, located inside the Albertson’s grocery store, 7090 Broadway, Lemon Grove, California.

At the time of the robbery it is alleged that Deshotels approached a teller and made a verbal demand for cash. After receiving a sum of money, Deshotels fled the bank on foot. Deshotels was followed through the parking lot by individuals who witnessed the robbery. San Diego Sheriff’s Deputies responding to the bank robbery observed the chase and stopped Deshotels a short distance from the bank. Deshotels was subsequently arrested for robbing the bank.

On Thursday, January 15, 2009 a federal complaint was filed in the U.S. District Court, Southern District of California, charging Deshotels with one count of violating Title 18, U.S.C., Section 2113(a) bank robbery, for robbing the above Wells Fargo Bank.

Deshotels is currently housed at the Metropolitan Correctional Center (MCC). Deshotels is expected to appear before a U.S. Magistrate Judge on Thursday, January 15, 2009. This case is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

An arrest itself is not evidence that the defendant committed the crimes charged. The defendant is presumed innocent until the Government meets its burden in court of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
