Appointment of Individuals to Key Management Posts

FBI Director Robert S. Mueller, III, today announced the appointment of the following individuals to key management posts:

Pasquale J. D’Amuro, Executive Assistant Director, Counterterrorism/Counterintelligence: Pat D’Amuro was appointed as a Special Agent of the FBI in 1979. He most recently served as Assistant Director of the Counterterrorism Division. In April 1995, Mr. D’Amuro was promoted to the position of Assistant Inspector and assigned to the Inspection Division at FBI Headquarters. In July 1996, Mr. D’Amuro was named the Program Manager for the National Organized Crime Initiative entitled “Operation Button Down,” where he was responsible for coordinating the New York Office’s Organized Crime Program. In February 1997, Mr. D’Amuro was named the Acting Unit Chief of the Russian Organized Crime Unit at FBI Headquarters before being appointed as the Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s New York Field Office’s National Security Division-Counterterrorism Program in August of that year.

Larry A. Mefford, Assistant Director, Counterterrorism Division: Mr. Mefford most recently served as Assistant Director, Cyber Division, where he supervised and facilitated the FBI’s investigation of federal violations in which the Internet, computer systems and networks are exploited as the principle instruments or targets of criminal activity. Since beginning his FBI career, Mr. Mefford has served as an Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the San Diego office, and Associate Special Agent in Charge of the San Francisco field office, where he was responsible for the management and oversight of all FBI operations. Mr. Mefford also formed and supervised the interagency Bay Area Joint Terrorism Task Force while assigned to the San Francisco office. He has served in crisis management roles in three Olympic Games, including the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, the 1996 Summer Games in Atlanta, and the 1984 Summer Games in Los Angeles, and has served as a Team Leader of the Hostage Rescue Team.

Jana D. Monroe, Assistant Director, Cyber Division: Ms. Monroe has most recently served as a Special Agent in Charge of the Los Angeles field office and previously as Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Denver field office where she was responsible for the organized crime, drug, violent crime, and white collar crime programs. While serving in the San Diego field office, Ms. Monroe supervised a white collar crime squad and served as a coordinator for the Hostage Negotiation and Evidence Response Teams. She served as a supervisor in the Critical Incident Response Group and in the Behavioral Science Unit. She has also worked as an investigator in the Albuquerque, Tampa, San Diego, and Washington, DC field offices. Prior to joining the FBI, Ms. Monroe worked as a probation officer and a police officer.
