Halpern: A free FBI summer program is fostering leadership skills, cultural awareness and career paths for teenagers. The Multi-Cultural Youth Leadership Academy in Portland, Oregon is just one program the Bureau offers to young people.

Fauerso: It’s been a great experience for the students who have participated.

Halpern: I’m Mollie Halpern of the Bureau and this is “FBI, This Week.” The five-week program provides different presentations and activities every day. Holly Fauerso helped spearhead the program…

Fauerso: Some weeks we focused on leadership, and talking about how we make decisions and how we work with other people that are different from us.

Halpern: Students get an inside look at what it’s like to be a special agent or other Bureau professional. Fifteen-year-old Miriam says she recommends it.

Miriam: The swat team would have to be my favorite.

Halpern: Bridges are built between law enforcement and the communities they serve.

Miriam: We don’t just learn about the FBI, we learn about all different law enforcement. And, we learn how to be leaders and teamwork.

Halpern: To learn more about how to participate in the FBI’s Community Outreach Programs contact your local field office.
