LAFAYETTE, LA—United States Attorney Stephanie A. Finley announced that Robert C. Green, a.k.a. Odell Green, 32, an inmate at the Federal Detention Center in Oakdale, La., was sentenced today to five years’ imprisonment and three years of supervised release for possession of contraband in prison.

Green, who has a history of violence, was found guilty on August 23, 2011 by a federal jury, for possessing a homemade knife in prison. Testimony at trial revealed that Green had an eight-inch plastic homemade weapon in his mattress. The weapon was made from a melted edge of a food tray lid.

U.S. Attorney Finley stated, “Our office will continue to support our federal prison system by prosecuting inmates who continue their illegal conduct while incarcerated and threaten the safety of others.”

This case was investigated by Laura Harbison with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Myers P. Namie.
