United States Attorney Brendan V. Leo Villarreal, age 27, was sentenced to 120 months’ imprisonment, 10 years’ supervised release, and a $100 assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund.

In March 2010, Villarreal sexually assaulted a child under the age of 16, as well as an adult woman. Villarreal was convicted by a jury after a trial in federal court in June 2011.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Indian Affairs-Office of Law Enforcement Services. Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric Kelderman prosecuted the case. Villarreal was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
