Federal Inmate Sentenced

US Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Jose Delgado-Benitez, age 35, was sentenced on November 7, 2012, by Chief U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier to two months in custody consecutive to the sentence he is currently serving.

Delgado-Benitez was indicted by a federal grand jury for possession of a prohibited object by an inmate on June 5, 2012. He pled guilty to the offense on August 14, 2012.

While he was an inmate at the Federal Prison Camp in Yankton, Delgado-Benitez possessed a mobile phone, which he used to send text messages to others.

This case was investigated by the Bureau of Prisons and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Ann M. Hendrickson prosecuted the case.
