Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested

Donald E. Oswald, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Minneapolis Field Office, today announces the arrest of Mark Edward Wetsch, date of birth 10/6/1962, of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Wetsch was arrested near Saint Peter, Minnesota by the Saint Peter Police Department after he was spotted traveling in a vehicle which was suspected of being used in a bank robbery at the Rolling Hills Bank in Brewster, Minnesota at 11:50 a.m. on January 3, 2012. The FBI is currently evaluating whether Wetsch may be the “Man in Black,” the serial bank robber who has committed several bank robberies throughout Minnesota and the Twin Cities metropolitan area.

The Saint Peter Police Department, the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, the Minneapolis Police Department, the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office, the Prior Lake Police Department, the Shakopee Police Department, the Nobles County Sheriff’s Office, the Nicollet County Sheriff’s Office, the Saint Paul Police Department, the Bloomington Police Department, the Hopkins Police Department, the Eden Prairie Police Department, the Richfield Police Department, the Alexandria Police Department, the Orono Police Department, the Hastings Police Department, the Faribault Police Department, the Columbia Heights Police Department, the Wright County Sheriff’s Office, the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office, and the FBI are jointly working this investigation.

It is anticipated that Wetsch will be formally charged in connection with the bank robbery in Brewster, Minnesota.

Mark Edward Wetsch is presumed innocent until/unless he is proven guilty in a court of law.
