Wagner Man Sentenced for Assault with Intent to Commit Kidnapping

U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Wagner, South Dakota man charged with kidnapping and assault was sentenced on August 1, 2011, by Chief U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier. Marcus Marks, age 20, was sentenced to six months in custody to be followed by three years of supervised release.

Marks was indicted for kidnapping, assault with intent to commit kidnapping, and domestic violence by a federal grand jury on March 15, 2011. In February of 2011, Marcus Marks threw his victim into a car, choked her, and hit her in the face. He then drove the car, forcing his victim to leave the area against her will and continued to assault her. He pled guilty to the assault with intent to commit kidnapping and domestic assault charges on May 10, 2011.

This case was investigated by the FBI and the Bureau of Indian Affairs Law Enforcement Services. Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas J. Wright prosecuted the case.

Marks was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshal.
