Seeking Information on Multiple Bank Robberies

FBI Minneapolis April 26, 2011
  • Chief Division Counsel Kyle A. Loven (763) 569-8540

Richard T. Thornton, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the Minneapolis FBI Office, announces that the FBI is seeking information about an unknown bank robber who robbed two banks and attempted to rob another bank earlier today.

Just before 8:30 this morning, an employee of the United Educator’s Credit Union located at 7912 Eden Road, Suite B, in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, unlocked the bank’s front door to allow a man into the bank. The man had been knocking on the door while waiting in the rain. The bank was scheduled to open at 8:30 a.m. The man had his back to the front door as it was being unlocked for business. Once the door was opened, the man turned around and displayed a handgun to the employee. He said “This is a robbery. Don’t call the police.” The robber walked to the teller counter and made a verbal demand for money. The lone teller on duty complied and provided the robber with an undisclosed amount of cash, including a dye pack. The robber left the bank on foot and was last seen in the parking lot area. Subsequent investigation revealed that the dye pack exploded outside the bank, and some currency was recovered in the parking lot.

At approximately 9:15 a.m., a man entered the Richfield-Bloomington Credit Union located at 4025 West Old Shakopee Road in Bloomington, Minnesota. He walked directly to the teller counter and displayed a handgun to the teller on duty. The robber made a verbal demand for money to the teller. The teller then walked to a nearby glassed area located behind the teller counter. The robber then left the bank on foot without obtaining any money. He was last seen walking southbound through the parking lot.

At approximately 10:15 a.m., a man entered the Wells Fargo Bank branch located at 300 Western Avenue NW in Faribault, Minnesota. He walked to the teller counter and displayed a handgun to a teller. The robber made a verbal demand for money. The teller complied with the demand and provided the robber with an undisclosed amount of cash. The robber was not satisfied and made a verbal demand for more money, to which the teller also complied. The robber then left the bank on foot and was last seen headed in a southbound direction through the parking lot.

The FBI believes the same individual is responsible for the two bank robberies and the attempted bank robbery. The same individual is also believed to be responsible for the robbery of the Sterling Bank in Savage, Minnesota on April 11, 2011, and the robbery of the U.S. Federal Credit Union in Northfield, Minnesota on April 14, 2011. The robber was described by witnesses today to be a white male, in his late 20s or early 30s, between 5’9” and 6’ tall, a medium build, and grey or hazel eyes. He was wearing white tennis shoes, blue jeans, a dark sweatshirt, a black hooded jacket, a black mask, a black knit hat, and black gloves. No one was injured during the robberies.

The FBI requests that anyone with information regarding these bank robberies contact the Minneapolis FBI Office at 612-376-3200, the Savage Police Department at 952/882-2600, the Northfield Police Department at 507/645-4475, the Eden Prairie Police Department at 952/949-6200, the Bloomington Police Department at 952/563-8893, the Faribault Police Department at 507/334-4305, or Crime Stoppers at 800/222-8477.
