Pine Ridge Woman Sentenced on Assault Charge

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Pine Ridge, South Dakota woman charged with assault with a dangerous weapon was sentenced on July 8, 2011, by United States District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken. Jamie McMillan, age 19, was sentenced to 18 months in custody, three years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund.
McMillan was indicted by a federal grand jury on May 18, 2010. On May 1, 2010, near Long Valley, South Dakota, she assaulted a man who was also bludgeoned to death by her mother, Sharon McMillan. Sharon McMillan has pled guilty to second-degree murder and awaits sentencing set for August 22, 2011, in Rapid City.
This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Assistant United States Attorney Tim Maher prosecuted the case. McMillan was immediately turned over to the custody of the United States Marshal.
