LaPlant Man Pleads Guilty to Assaulting Federal Employee

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Kendall Charger, age 38, of LaPlant, appeared before United States District Judge Roberto A. Lange on October 11, 2011, and pled guilty to a superseding information that charged him with assaulting or intimidating a federal employee. The maximum penalty upon conviction is one year in custody, a $100,000 fine, or both; one year of supervised release; and a $10 special assessment.
The conviction arose out of an incident in which Kendall Charger left a threatening message on the answering machine at Tiospaye Topa School for the school’s assistant principal.
The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Division. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Mikal Hanson.
A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for December 8, 2011. The defendant was released on bond pending sentencing.
