Hawarden Man Sentenced for Centerville Bank Robbery

U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Hawarden, Iowa man charged with bank robbery was sentenced on August 1, 2011, by Chief U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier. Jeremy Bullock, age 32, was sentenced to 78 months’ imprisonment.

Bullock was indicted for bank robbery by a federal grand jury on January 11, 2011. On January 4, 2011, Jeremy Bullock walked into the First Midwest Bank at Centerville, South Dakota, wearing a heavy coat, gloves, and sunglasses. He walked up to a bank teller, pointed a handgun at her, and demanded that she put money in a bag. Bullock also threatened to “blow the head off” a second teller if she did not comply. After receiving a bag of money, Bullock ran out of the bank. He then stole a pickup truck and led police officers on a high speed chase. Officers apprehended Bullock near Turkey Ridge and recovered all of the stolen money. He pled guilty to the charge on May 10, 2011.

The investigation was conducted by the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, the South Dakota Highway Patrol, the Centerville Police Department, the Turner County Sheriff’s Office, and the FBI. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey C. Clapper. Bullock was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshal.
