Oglala Woman Pleads Guilty to Abuse of a Minor

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Shannon J'Etta Brave, age 39, of Oglala, appeared before U.S. District Judge Richard H. Battey on March 10, 2010, and pled guilty to Count V of an indictment that charged her with abuse of a minor. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 10 years' imprisonment and/or a $250,000 fine. Between January 2007 and September 2008, Brave repeatedly exposed her minor daughter to an unsafe environment. The investigation was conducted by the FBI. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Carolyn G. Olson. A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for May 26, 2010. The defendant was released on bond pending sentencing.
