Coon Rapids Man Sentenced for Robbing Garrison Bank

A 40-year-old Coon Rapids man was sentenced today in federal court in St. Paul for the September 27, 2007, robbery of the First National Bank of Deerwood, which is located in Garrison, Minnesota. United States District Court Judge Richard H. Kyle sentenced James Richard Ardito, Jr., to 132 months in prison on one count of armed bank robbery. Ardito was indicted on November 18, 2008, and pled guilty on January 26, 2009.
In his plea agreement, Ardito admitted that on September 27, 2007, he took $2,870 from the bank. In addition, he admitted he assaulted and put the life of another person in jeopardy by using a dangerous weapon during the commission of the crime.
This case was the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Erika R. Mozangue.
