MADISON, WI—John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Chance D. Pagel, 32, Baraboo, Wisconsin, was sentenced Wednesday by U.S. District Judge Lynn S. Adelman to 27 months’ imprisonment and five years’ supervised release for aiding and abetting the aggravated bank robbery of the Wells Fargo Bank in Baraboo. Pagel pleaded guilty to this charge before Judge Adelman on November 13, 2013.
On June 6, 2013, the Wells Fargo Bank, at 710 Broadway Road, Baraboo, Wisconsin, was robbed by a masked gunman brandishing a handgun. The defendant admitted to providing the handgun, clothes, and vehicle to the robber to rob the bank. According to Pagel, he shared in the proceeds of the robbery and assisted in disposing of the clothes and handgun in the Baraboo river after the robbery. Law enforcement officers were able to recover the handgun from the river. The investigation remains open.
The charge against Pagel was the result of an investigation conducted by the Baraboo Police Department, Sauk County Sheriff’s Department, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Peter M. Jarosz.
