135-Year Sentence for Hotel Robberies

MEMPHIS, TN—Ronald McNeil, age 27, was sentenced February 12, 2009 to a sentence of 135 years and 10 months by United States District Judge Samuel H. Mays, Jr. on charges involving a series of armed hotel robberies in Memphis between May and June 2001 announced Lawrence J. Laurenzi, United States Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee.

On September 5, 2008, a federal jury returned a guilty verdict against McNeil of all twelve (12) counts of the superseding indictment. McNeil and two co-defendants were charged with six (6) counts of “Hobbs Act” Robberies and six (6) counts of carrying, brandishing and discharging firearms during the robberies. McNeil received a sentence of 70 months for the robbery convictions followed by a consecutive 130 year sentence on the firearm convictions.

The case was investigated by officers with the Memphis Police Department Robbery Bureau and the FBI Safe Street Task Force. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys David C. Henry and Lorraine Craig.
