Week in Review—Hammond

HAMMOND, IN—The United States Attorney’s Office announced the following:

Pleas

• Katherine Yates, 38, of Merrillville, Indiana, pled guilty before Judge Rudy Lozano to the felony offense of wire fraud in the case U.S. v James et al. These charges were filed as the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Sentencing has been set for March 24, 2012. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Susan Collins.

• Gary James, 54, of Marisa, Illinois, pled guilty before Judge Rudy Lozano to the felony offense of wire fraud. These charges were filed as the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Susan Collins.

• Ricky Stokes, 25, of Hammond, Indiana, pled guilty before Judge Joseph Van Bokkelen to the felony offense of carrying a firearm during the commission of a federal narcotics violation. These charges were filed as the result of an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney David Nozick.

• Clinton Davis, III, 25, of Hammond, Indiana, pled guilty before Judge Joseph Van Bokkelen to the felony offense of interference with commerce by threat of violence in the case U.S. v Stokes et al. Sentencing has been set for June 19, 2012. These charges were filed as the result of an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney David Nozick.

• Tracey Davis, 39, of Michigan City, Indiana, pled guilty before Magistrate Judge Paul Cherry to the felony offenses of theft or receipt of stolen mail and fraud with identification documents. These charges were filed as the result of an investigation by the United States Postal Inspection Service. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Toi Houston.

• Tommy Tyner, 28, of Hammond, Indiana, pled guilty before Judge Joseph Van Bokkelen to the felony offense of interference with commerce by threat of violence in the case U.S. v Stokes et al. Sentencing has been set for June 13, 2012. These charges were filed as the result of an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney David Nozick.

• Daniel Olson, 62, of Merrillville, Indiana, pled guilty before Judge Joseph Van Bokkelen to the felony offense of making false statements and tampering with a monitoring method under the Clean Water Act. These charges were filed as the result of an investigation by the Environmental Protection Agency. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Wayne Ault.

• Garrett Smith, 33, of Merrillville, Indiana, pled guilty before Judge Joseph Van Bokkelen to the felony offense of possession with the intent to distribute cocaine. Sentencing has been set for June 27, 2012. These charges were filed as the result of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jacqueline Jacobs.

The specific sentence in each case to be imposed upon conviction will be determined by the judge after a consideration of federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.

Dispositions

• Amanda Copeland, 25, of Cedar Lake, Indiana, was sentenced by Judge Rudy Lozano to 21 months’ imprisonment and two years of supervised release after pleading guilty to the felony offense of conspiracy to distribute heroin in the case U.S. v Powell et al. This case was the result of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jennifer Chang-Adiga.

• Myles Ramirez, 27, of Lowell, Indiana, was sentenced by Judge Rudy Lozano to 30 months’ imprisonment and two years of supervised release after pleading guilty to the felony offense of conspiracy to distribute heroin in the case U.S. v Powell et al. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jennifer Chang-Adiga.

• Lee Gilyard, 27, of Hammond, Indiana, was sentenced by Chief Judge Philip Simon to 46 months’ imprisonment and two years of supervised release after pleading guilty to the felony offense of selling a firearm to a convicted felon. This case was the result of an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives HIDTA Task Force. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney David Nozick.

• Alan Goings, 34, of Crown Point, Indiana, was sentenced by Judge Rudy Lozano to six months’ imprisonment and two years of supervised release to include six months of home detention after pleading guilty to the felony offense of making false statements on a mortgage loan application. Goings was ordered to pay $211,021.62 in restitution. This case was the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Susan Collins.
