FBI Philadelphia Art Crime Case - David Gager powder horn

The item belonged to David Gager, a Connecticut Revolutionary War soldier who later became a pioneer in Wayne County’s Lebanon Township. He carried the powder horn—a container used to carry gunpowder—with him during the War of 1812. This item was stolen from the Wayne County Historical Society in Honesdale, Pennsylvania, sometime before December 7, 1994. It may have been sold at auction afterwards. The powder horn is 8 inches long and has no bottom. The item is inscribed with the words “David Gager,” a date of June 1803, and detailed drawings of an eagle, a crest flanked by animals, and flower designs.
