Wanted by the FBI: High School Students for the 2022 FBI Teen Academy

WASHINGTON—The FBI’s Washington Field Office (WFO) invites all interested students enrolled in accredited high schools (public, private, or homeschool) in the WFO area of responsibility (AOR) to apply to attend WFO’s Future Agents in Training – Teen Academy. WFO’s AOR encompasses Washington, D.C., and the following counties in Virginia: Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax, Fauquier, Manassas, Loudoun, and Prince William.

The Teen Academy will be held at the Northern Virginia Resident Agency in Manassas, Virginia, from August 2 to August 4, 2022. The sessions will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.

The FBI Teen Academy provides an opportunity for high school students to catch a glimpse behind the scenes of the FBI. Upon completion of Teen Academy, high school students will have a greater understanding of the FBI’s mission and how we serve our citizens, community, and nation. During the academy, students will be afforded an opportunity to learn about how evidence is collected at crime scenes; discover how FBI SWAT teams execute arrests; learn about terrorism, civil rights, crimes against children, and cyber programs, as well as job opportunities and requirements. Students will learn from special agents, intelligence analysts, language specialists, and other FBI career tracks about investigative tactics that include gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and assisting with cases.

The FBI hires employees with a variety of backgrounds—not just criminal justice—so any student with an interest in the FBI and what we do is encouraged to apply. All students will be evaluated based on their application (school activities and community involvement) and an essay to determine which students will be offered a spot in the class. None of the above elements will be the sole basis of the evaluation of an application. All applicants must submit an application, release form, and supporting essay to WFO by 4 p.m. on May 31, 2022. Applications must be submitted to WFOCOP@FBI.gov. Incomplete and late applications will not be accepted.
