FBI Miami to Host Youth Empowerment Summit

The Miami Field Office of the FBI is working hard to put together an all-day event for public high school students from Dade and Broward Counties with a two-fold purpose of giving them a positive interaction with law enforcement and providing them with skills to prepare them for college, careers, and beyond.

Called the Youth Empowerment Summit, or YES, the event will be held at the Pembroke Pines City Center on October 27. To register, interested youth must go through their high school administrators or go directly to fbicaaamiami.org. No walk-ins will be accepted. Registration is open from August 15 until September 21.

“We are excited to be putting together this experience for our high school students,” said Jeff Green, community outreach special for FBI Miami. “The FBI is part of this community. We have a stake in its future and we want to make a positive difference. We are fortunate to have received a lot of support from around South Florida to make this worthy cause a success.”

The 500 students who are expected to attend YES will hear from a prominent guest speaker and attend breakout sessions such as "Bridging the Gap Between Youth and Law Enforcement," "Social Media Dos and Don’ts," "College Preparedness," and "Developing Your Interviewing Skills," among others.

YES will close out with a free concert from the In Blue Band, whose members are all South Florida law enforcement officers.

An undertaking a big as YES needs a lot of support and dedication to pull off. FBI Miami is joined in this effort with crucial support and sponsorship from the FBI Citizens Academy Alumni Association Miami Chapter, the City of Pembroke Pines, Miramar Police Department, Fort Lauderdale Police Department, and Broward College.
