Miami Chapter of FBI Citizens Academy Alumni Hosts Second Youth Empowerment Summit (YES)

Miami – The FBI Citizens Academy Alumni Association Miami Chapter is putting together a second all-day summit for high school students from public and charter schools in Dade and Broward Counties. The theme of YES this year remains the same as last year: provide a positive interaction with law enforcement and help students develop skills they will need for college, careers, and beyond.

Last year, the inaugural summit saw 250 high school students descend on the Pembroke Pines City Center for an engaging and interactive day of activities, instruction, and fun.

This year’s event is on Thursday, October 24th, at the same location – the Pembroke Pines City Center. To register, interested youth must go through their high school administrators, who are able to register at www.fbimiamicaaa.org/youth-empowerment-summit. The $20 cost includes breakfast, lunch, and a T-shirt. Because this year’s summit is on a school day, it is regarded as a school field trip. No walk-ins will be accepted. Registration is open until October 1st.

“We are excited to be a part of a second Youth Empowerment Summit,” said Jeff Green, Community Outreach Specialist for FBI Miami. “Helping our Citizens Academy Alumni give high school students an opportunity to interact with law enforcement professionals serves to help make them better citizens and may spark an interest in some to pursue a career in law enforcement.”

An undertaking as big as YES needs a lot of support and dedication to make it a first class event. Crucial support is also coming from the City of Pembroke Pines, Miramar Police Department, Fort Lauderdale Police Department, Broward College, as well as FBI Miami.
