Backpack Bomb Found in Front of Nederland Police Station

Preliminary FBI Investigation Indicates Active IED Failed to Detonate

Early yesterday morning, a Nederland police officer discovered a backpack in front of the Nederland Police Department and the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office substation, located in western Boulder County. The Caribou Ridge Shopping Center and the area surrounding it were evacuated as a safety precaution. The Boulder County Regional Bomb Squad responded, along with FBI bomb techs.

Preliminary indications are that the improvised explosive device (IED) was active, but it failed to detonate.

A joint investigation is being conducted by the FBI, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, and the Nederland Police Department. Due to the ongoing investigation, no other information can be released at this time.
