Guilty Plea in Murder of Morgan Bauer

NEWTON COUNTY—The man accused of murdering 19-year-old Morgan Bauer in 2016 pleaded guilty this week to state charges of malice murder, tampering with evidence, concealing the death of another, and necrophilia.

Morgan Bauer’s bones were found last year on a Porterdale, Georgia, property after FBI Atlanta and law enforcement partners searched the property. The teenager vanished two weeks after she moved to Atlanta from South Dakota in February 2016. She was last seen near a park in Porterdale before she disappeared.

Jonathan Alexander Warren entered the non-negotiated plea in Newton County Court during a hearing Wednesday and was sentenced to life in prison without parole. A second person, Katelyn Goble, is also indicted in the case. Her case is pending.

FBI Atlanta would like to thank the Newton County District Attorney's Office, Porterdale Police, the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, and the GBI for their work on the case. Agencies in Illinois and California also contributed to the investigation.
