Toledo Man Arrested for Kidnapping

FBI Cincinnati April 06, 2011
  • Public Affairs Specialist Todd Lindgren (513) 979-8347

Keith L. Bennett, Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the Cincinnati Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Carter M. Stewart, U.S. Attorney, Southern District of Ohio, announced that Rodney L. Brown, age 32, of Toledo has been charged in a federal complaint with a violation of Title 18, U.S. Code Section 1201(a)(1), kidnapping. Brown was driving a car which was stopped on April 5, 2011 by a Tipp City Police Officer on I-75. Subsequent investigation by the Tipp City Police and the FBI at both Dayton and Toledo resulted in the charge filed against Brown. Because the affidavit in support of the complaint is sealed no further details can be released at this time.

A violation of the federal kidnapping statute carries a maximum punishment of life imprisonment.

Brown received an initial appearance in U.S. Magistrates Court, Dayton this afternoon. He was ordered held pending a detention hearing on April 11, 2011 at 1:30 p.m., in the same court.

SAC Bennett thanked Tipp City Chief of Police Thomas N. Davidson and the members of the Tipp City Police Department for their work in the investigation which led to the complaint. SAC Bennett also commended the agents at both Dayton and Toledo whose investigation led to the complaint.

The public is reminded that criminal complaints contain only allegations of criminal misconduct and that a defendant is presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
